North Weald

North Weald Airfield lies two miles from Junction 7 of the M11, with quick road access to the M25 and north-east London. It is an unlicensed general aviation aerodrome owned and operated by Epping Forest District Council, and it holds listed status. All flying is VFR and PPR is required; the airfield is open 08:30–19:00 in summer and 08:30 to sunset plus 30 minutes in winter. The main runway, 02/20, is 1,881 × 45 m, with a parallel 880 m grass runway, and Avgas 100LL, UL91 and Jet A-1 are available on site.

Operational flying began here in the summer of 1916, when North Weald was set up as a night landing ground to counter Zeppelin raids. From 1927 it was home to 56 Squadron, whose Hurricanes covered the retreat from Dunkirk and fought in the Battle of Britain; in 1942 two Norwegian squadrons arrived, and more than 50 squadrons from seven nations have flown from the airfield. The North Weald Airfield Museum stands at the old main entrance.

Today North Weald is a very busy aerodrome, with private owners, flight training schools, historic aircraft, jet and warbird experience flights and the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance, whose helicopter has priority in the circuit. Licensed engineering tenants such as Vintage Aero and Weald Aviation maintain aircraft on site, and a large Saturday market draws crowds from across Essex and north London.

We work to the airfield's procedures for contractors and arrange access with the operations team before each job. We bring our own water container and generator, and our exterior wash is waterless, so we don't depend on facilities at the aircraft. Training aircraft and privately owned tourers have an instant online price; larger turboprops and historic types are quoted after a short on-site inspection.
