Fairoaks

Fairoaks Airport lies 2 NM north of Woking near Chobham, between the M3 and the M25, about 35 km south-west of central London. It is run by Fairoaks Operations Ltd, operates VFR only with an air/ground radio service, and is open 08:00–18:00 Monday to Saturday and 09:00–18:00 on Sundays and public holidays. Its asphalt runway, 06/24, is 810 × 27 m with pilot-controlled lighting, and both Avgas 100LL and Jet A-1 are available.

Most of the Fairoaks traffic zone lies inside the London Control Zone, so special procedures let aircraft arrive and depart without contacting Heathrow Radar. The airfield opened as a private airstrip in 1931 and became RAF Fairoaks during the Second World War, when around 6,000 pilots learned to fly here — most of them in Tiger Moths. Planning conditions still shape the airfield today: fixed-wing movements are capped at 120,000 a year, and only four runway movements are allowed before 10:00 on Sundays.

Today Fairoaks combines fixed-wing flight training, a community of private owners and a strong helicopter presence: the British Helicopter Association, the UK industry body for helicopter operators, has its headquarters on the airfield. Typical aircraft range from training Cessnas and Pipers to Cirrus and Diamond tourers, twins and helicopters.

We work to the airport's procedures for contractors and arrange access with the operator before each job.
